Cyrano is fi’zi:k’s latest range of cockpit components, comprising handlebars, stems, and seatposts. Handlebars are highly-stressed, safety-critical parts, making strength and fatigue resistance of paramount importance. Low weight is of course also a priority.
Cyrano handlebars are available in three models, according to material specification, and in three shapes to fit different rider physiques, as described by fi’z:k’s Spine Concept system. Each shape is carefully designed to give easy transitions between different riding positions – tops, hoods, and drops. The range of nine fi’zi:k Cyrano handlebars models are each available in a choice of four widths, to ensure a perfect fit.
The Fizik Cyrano R5 handlebar is made using Anticordal aluminum; a 6061-series aluminum, with a high strength-to-density ratio that has the highest level of stiffness. Anticordal also has good fatigue resistance, particularly important in handlebars.
The Cyrano R5 Snake has the longest reach (80mm) and deepest drop (130mm), with a more rounded curve than traditional bars. This shape allows highly flexible riders to adopt a low, flat-backed riding position with horizontal forearms.
The Cyrano R5 Chameleon maintains a long reach (85mm) but bring the drops (135m) up to accommodate still mobile, but slightly less flexible, riders. The shape sits between the more square Snake bars and the compact Bull bars.
The Cyrano R3 Bull is for the least flexible Bulls riders who require a slightly more upright riding position for maximum comfort and efficiency. This is produced by reducing the reach (75mm) and introducing a still shallower drop (125mm).
They are available in three sizes, with the 420mm width weighing 310g.
Fizik is the premium, racing brand of Selle Royal S.p.a. Its name is synonymous with the shape and form of the human body; hence the intuitive association with products that are contact points between riders and their bikes. More than this, Fizik represents beauty, speed, passion, freedom for those who race against each other, race against the clock and for enthusiast cyclists around the world who identify with the feeling of the fire of competition. The humble origin in 1998 stemmed from a vision to improve rider performance by creating superior saddle comfort. Today’s Spine Concept™ provides a guideline to help riders find their most comfortable saddle. Integral to this comfort is the design collaboration with professional athletes and the fact that each saddle is 100% “fatto a mano” (hand-made) in Italy. Some credit Fizik with redefining the racing saddle category thanks to its destructively-innovative elegant products that are not only comfortable, but also a source of style and beauty in their own right. The Arione, launched in 2003 is one such example. In 2006 Fizik launched a product for riders’ hands: a strong, washable Microtex bar tape. Shoes were then launched in 2010 offering a unique blend of innovative materials with an inimitable style. 2014 sees Fizik launch road cockpit components employing The Spine Concept™ to help riders choose their perfect handlebar shape. In 2013 Fizik saddles were ridden by 8 out of the 19 UCI World Tour Teams. Fizik’s relentless innovation is facilitated by many such committed professional athletes, from all cycling disciplines. Relentless testing and refinement has helped Fizik to push the boundaries of possibility. It will come as little surprise then that Fizik products have been ridden to many Cycling World titles, Ironman World Championship titles and beyond.

|MEASUREMENTS BASED ON A 420 mm HANDLEBAR|
The application of The Spine Concept™ to handlebar shape is the result of fi’zi:k’s research with riders of 3 UCI World Tour Teams that were riding fi’zi:k saddles. A correlation was found between the saddle shape each rider was using and the handlebar shape they were riding.
The Snake Handlebar If you are very spinally flexible (far less than 90 degrees between your straight legs and your back when bending over as far as you can, keeping your legs straight a shoulders’ width apart), you are a Snake. You are better able to reach further and get down lower to use the full radius of more rounded, classic-style, deeper-drop handlebars. You will prefer the Snake Handlebar because it has a longer reach (85mm) and deeper, classic-style drop (140mm).
The Chameleon Handlebar If you have an intermediate degree of spinal flexibility (approximately 90 degrees between your straight legs and your back when bending over as far as you can, keeping your legs straight a shoulders’ width apart), you are a chameleon. You are better able to reach further, but perhaps you can’t get down quite as low on the handlebar drops as a Snake would be able to. You will prefer the Chameleon Handlebar because it has a longer reach (85mm) but a shallower, more ergonomic-style drop (135mm).
The Bull Handlebar If you have a relatively low degree of spinal flexibility (more than 90 degrees between your straight legs and back when bending over as far as you can, keeping your legs straight a shoulders’ width apart), you are a Bull. You will not be able to reach as far or bend as low as a Snake or a Chameleon would be able to. You will prefer the Bull Handlebar because it has a shorter reach (80mm) and a shallower, more ergonomic-style handlebar drop (130mm).
