ILombardia 2021: the Classic Italian Monument finishes in Bergamo
The 115th edition of ILombardia will take place on Saturday 9th October, and our city will once again be the protagonist for the 2021 edition.
For the 12th time since its inception, the race will start from Como and cross the finish line in Bergamo, after 247 km and 4000 meters of elevation. The roads that we use after work and at the weekends will play host for this international race and we are proud to be part of this great race once again.
The race was established in 1905 and was called "The Autumn World Championship" or "The ride of the falling leaves" as the World Championships were, at this time, held in late summer between August and September.
The key symbol of the race continues to be Ghisallo, the famous climb that starts from Bellagio, passing the famous Madonna del Ghisallo church, protector of cyclists, and its name will be forever linked to the name of Fausto Coppi, who holds a record 5 wins.

Bergamo was not part of the 2016 edition but over the last ten years our city has been linked to the departure or arrival of this Monument, one of the 5 European Classics : The Tour of Flanders, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Paris-Roubaix and Milan-Sanremo. Among the multiple winners of the Giro di Lombardia we remember the five victories of Fausto Coppi (ITA), 4 victories of Alfredo Binda (ITA) and 3 victories of Costante Girardengo (ITA), Damiano Cunego (ITA), Gaetano Belloni (ITA), Gino Bartali (ITA), Henri Pèlissier (FRA) and Sean Kelly (IRL). Also linked to "Il Lombardia" is the Gran Fondo of the same name, also ran by RCS Sport, scheduled for the following day on Sunday 10th October. For more information visit the official website HERE.
