Some projects start with a country rather than a component. This Colnago C72 in HFWS Black-White Silver, size 510, was built for a Colombian rider based in Spain, who reached out by email after a word-of-mouth recommendation. He wanted a complete bike still made in Italy, with Italian parts throughout: Campagnolo as a matter of principle, and a tribute to Ernesto Colnago, the innovator whose work he has long admired. Already a Colnago owner, he made sizing simple, so our attention went to the details — a CC02 cockpit in place of the standard bar, a Super Record power meter crankset, and Hyperon Ultra wheels on 28 mm tubeless tyres, chosen for a ride that stays smooth and reactive when the road climbs. Delivered to Madrid at 7.06 kg, and since described by its owner as the best bike he has ever owned.
