Cycling Bergamo - Episode 00
Our hometown of Bergamo is located in a territory that many believe to be the cradle of Italian cycling, which has certainly proved a great training ground for many champions of the past and present.
We are located in northern Italy, close to the Orobie Alps, not far from Milan and Como, an area where dozens of companies operate in the cycling sector.
It is not easy to find an explanation for this proliferation of brands, but perhaps the presence of a historic company like Bianchi may have influenced the dedication of the Bergamaschi to the practice of cycling.
What is certain, however, is that the Pre-Alps and the Bergamasque Alps offers countless roads and paths for those who love riding.
Over the years the traffic has concentrated close to the cities so that many secondary roads have become more and more devoid of traffic.
These areas have become a real playground; the valley bottoms and the climbs that branch off, allow you to create so many loops that it would take months to cover all of them.
This is easily enough to satiate the many passionate cyclists in our area.
There is a saying in these parts that any Bergamo rider will have at least one passionate cyclist in his or her family.
From this also derives a healthy respect for those who ride on the streets from motorists.
The enthusiasm expressed by customers who have discovered our hills and mountains when picking up their new bicycle has prompted us to spread the message about our area.
Riding in Italy is not just about Tuscany, the Dolomites or Langhe.
The Bergamasque Alps make up a vast and perfect territory for two wheels, but many still do not know about it.
We have so much fun cycling around here that we thought of creating a small guide that offers information on the area, suggesting routes and climbs not to be missed.
It will also offer suggestions on the best places to visit and more importantly, the advice on locals restaurants, cafes, gelaterias and much more, to make your cycling trip to Bergamo a complete and wholly satisfying experience.
And so we involved friends, collaborators and true lovers of two wheels to tell us about their favorite route or climb, the one they would recommend to a friend visiting our city without hesitation.
